When Should Applications Be Made For Accommodation İn Hungary?

In the majority of universities in Hungary, education starts in September. For this reason, thousands of foreign students look for dormitories and rental houses at the same time in August and September. Accommodation quotas fill up very quickly, especially since most of the universities in Budapest do not have their own dormitories, and students are directed to contracted hostels or private residences.

It is necessary to start researching accommodation starting from June at the latest. It is best to apply for university dormitories immediately after receiving acceptance. Negotiations with real estate agents for the rental house should begin around the end of July. Moving early allows you to access more affordable options and reduces the stress of finding a place.

Accommodation Offered By Universities

Some of the universities in Hungary offer dormitories to their students on or near the campus. However, while universities in cities outside Budapest have more advantages in this regard, many universities in the capital do not have their own dormitories. However, there are private dormitories and student residences with which universities have agreements.

Monthly fees in university dormitories vary between 220 Euros and 420 Euros. This fee usually includes internet, water, electricity and heating expenses. Facilities such as a shared kitchen, work area, laundry and social areas are also offered. Since capacities are limited, students who do not apply early may stay abroad.

Some universities offer different room options:

  • Standard Room: Shared bathroom and shared kitchen, the most economical option.
  • En-Suite Room: Private bathroom and toilet, kitchen is shared.
  • Studio Room: Kitchen, bathroom and living area belong entirely to the student, a more independent accommodation.
