Preparation (Foundation Program / UniLink) Entry Requirements
1. Swinburne Foundation Program (8 months): For students who have completed Year 11 in Australia or an equivalent overseas qualification.
2. Academic requirement: Year 11 level must be completed.
3. English requirement: IELTS 6.0 overall, not below 5.5 in any band (Academic Module) or equivalent to Swinburne's own English language test (EAP).
4. UniLink Diploma (equivalent to the 1st year of the undergraduate degree): For students whose academic grades do not qualify directly for the undergraduate degree — for example, IELTS 6.5 for the UniLink Diploma in Engineering, with no band below 6.0 (alternatives TOEFL iBT 79, PTE 58-64 are also accepted).
5. If the English level is insufficient, ELICOS (English language preparation course) is recommended before admission.
Undergraduate (Bachelor) Entry Requirements
7. Academic requirement: High school diploma (Year 12 or equivalent) — generally around GPA (may vary country by source, e.g. for CBSE/ICSE).
8. English requirement (general): IELTS 6.0 overall, not below 6.0 in any band (TOEFL iBT ~79, PTE 50).
9. Some programs (Education, Exercise-Sports Science, Law, Nursing, Psychology) have a higher English requirement – ??for example Nursing: IELTS 7.0.
10. Engineering and Aviation programs: Having taken a Mathematics course at Year 12 level is mandatory.
11. Students who do not meet the requirements are offered alternative pathways such as the UniLink Diploma or Foundation Program.
Master/Postgraduate Entry Requirements
12. Academic requirement: A recognized undergraduate degree in a relevant field, usually with a GPA of ` or above.
13. English requirement (general): IELTS 6.5 overall, not below 6.0 in any band (some faculties prefer 7.0).
14. For MBA: Bachelor's degree (in any field) or completion of PG Qualifying Programme; English IELTS 6.5, with no band below 6.0; GMAT is not mandatory, but GMAT 580 provides an advantage in scholarship evaluation.
15. Candidates who do not have a bachelor's degree but have at least 4 years of work experience in their field (at least 2 years full time) can also be accepted to some programs.
16. The Postgraduate Qualifying Program (PQP) — a preparation program for a master's degree in business or information technology — is offered for those who do not meet the academic or English requirements.
17. For doctoral (PhD) applications, it is also recommended to obtain additional: two academic reference letters, IELTS 6.5 (some faculties require 7.0), and pre-approval/expression of interest from a consultant academician before applying — this step significantly increases the chances of acceptance.
