University of Ostrava (UO) is a public research university located in Ostrava, Czech Republic. The university was founded in 1991 and provides education to approximately 9,000 students within six faculties. These faculties; They are the faculties of Medicine, Education, Fine Arts and Music, Social Sciences, Science and Humanities. Since the university's campuses are largely located in the city center of Ostrava, students can experience university life and city life together. Preparation

There is no 1-year general Foundation Programme.

If the student's high school or previous education level is not sufficient for direct entry to the program, the student must meet the program's own admission requirements instead of a separate general preparatory year.

Students who will apply to English programs need to pay particular attention to their English proficiency. For example, English Philology undergraduate degree requires at least B2 level of English.

The basic requirement for undergraduate applications is to have completed high school education. Students coming from countries other than the Czech Republic, such as Turkey, must submit the necessary documents for the recognition/equivalence of their high school diploma. The university also implements a verification process for the evaluation of foreign education documents.

 English Philology

There is no entrance exam for the English Philology license. The student must be able to document English proficiency.

Mathematics

Minimum 10 points for each course, in total. At least 45 points must be obtained. Candidates who fail this exam are not accepted. The exam is based on high school level biology, chemistry and physics subjects.

A motivation letter and a structured summary of the undergraduate thesis are also requested in the application. Candidates who do not have an undergraduate thesis can request an academic study regarding their previous education.

Social Work

For the Social Work master's degree, a bachelor's degree in Social Work or a related field is required. The English level is stated as B2 and certification is not mandatory. The application process includes a motivational video and interview prepared in English.

Mathematics

Students from a Mathematics or related undergraduate program can apply to the Mathematics master's degree. The program adds advanced mathematics and research skills to the mathematics knowledge gained at the undergraduate level.




Doctoral Applications

Doctorate programs generally require a master's degree, research topic/project and relevant academic background. An interview or evaluation process is applied according to the programs.

For example, for the Philosophy International Program, the candidate must submit a doctoral research proposal and attend an oral interview in English.

Social Work PhD is 4-year and part-time. The candidate is required to have a master's degree in social work or a related field and a doctoral research project of 1,000–2,000 words. The admission process is evaluated in two stages.
