Cistercian College is a private, boarding high school in Roscrea, founded in 1905. MountSt. Located within the grounds of Joseph Abbey, the school offers its students a safe and holistic learning environment with its 30-acre green campus and Cistercian education tradition. Combining academic success with character development, leadership, social responsibility and international perspective, the school aims to prepare its students for Leaving Certificate exams and university education. The school, which accepted only male students for more than 20 years, started the transition to a co-education model as of September 2026 and started to accept female students in the first stage.

Education

The school has a single education system. It consists of 3 interconnected periods: Lower Secondary Education Program (Junior Cycle), Transition Year and Senior Cycle.

-Lower Secondary Education Program (3 years): It is the first stage of secondary education and is the program in which basic academic knowledge and skills are gained.
-Transition Year Program (1 year): It is a transition year that aims for students to gain personal development, leadership, social responsibility and work experience.
-Upper. Secondary Education Program (2 years): It is the program in which students prepare for Leaving Certificate exams and university education.

-Total Education Duration: 6 years

-Age Range: 12–18 years

Application Period

-1st Year applications: Starts in October every year.

-Applications for upper grades and international students are based on quota status. are evaluated.


-Late applications are examined if there is a suitable quota.

Accommodation

The school's boarding accommodation system is organized to ensure that students live in a safe and supportive environment. Each residential student house is managed by two Housemasters who are responsible for the day-to-day operation and provide 24-hour support to students by remaining on the school campus during their time on duty. In addition, two assistant Housemasters, who work on a rotating basis, also provide support to all boarding houses. Students' health and well-being processes are monitored by the school nurse; Access to doctor and hospital services is provided when necessary. While social events are organized in the evenings and weekends, students can benefit from common recreation areas, study rooms and sports facilities.
