General Information about the University of Duisburg-Essen
The University of Duisburg-Essen is a research university in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. It was founded in 2003 by the merger of the Universities of Duisburg and Essen. Its campuses are located in the cities of Duisburg and Essen.
The University offers education in five faculties: Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Faculty of Economics and Business, Faculty of Educational Sciences, Faculty of Engineering and Faculty of Medicine. It also offers master's and doctoral programs in many disciplines.
The University of Duisburg-Essen is one of the largest universities in Germany with around 43,000 students and 4,000 academic staff. The university, which is also very active in the field of research, leads many national and international research projects.
The University enjoys a prestigious reputation around the world and is ranked in the 351-400 band of the QS World University Rankings among European universities. It is also a member of the European Association of Research Universities (LERU) and is home to many international students.
